Expert Talk 2.2 | Future Battery Manufacturing – Quo Vadis? Passed

Thursday February 27, 2025 13:40 - 14:20 Motorworld - Stellwerk 2

Speaker: Dr. Kai K. O. Bär (adphos Innovative Technologies GmbH)

Subject: Thursday February 27, 2025

The battery-electrode coating and drying process is today the most energy consuming process step (> 30 % even up to > 50 %) of the necessary cell manufacturing. The adphos developed BearLITE (Battery electrode advanced rapid Light Initiated Thermal Emission) processing technology allows an enhanced drying of wet anode/cathode water and also solvent based thick layers (even above 300 µm wet) in less than 10 s (!) complete drying time down to << 1 % remaining water/solvent content. The drying process is properly verified, according crack-free, sufficient layer adhesion to the Cu/Al-substrates as well as justified as at least as good electrical properties of manufactured battery cells.

In the presentation based on the concluded outline of the present electrode manufacturing limitations and challenges, the working principle of the BearLITE-technology, the verified enhancements as well as already realized production experience (TRL 7/8) are outlined. The possible benefits are demonstrated and evaluated at realized examples.
