Keynote 4 | Presentation of an Innovative Dry Coating Process for Electrode Production Passed

Thursday February 27, 2025 16:35 - 16:55 Motorworld - Dampfdom

Speakers: Hieu Duong (AM Batteries USA), Prof. Dr. Daniel Eggerath (Jagenberg Converting Solutions GmbH)

Subject: Thursday February 27, 2025

In the field of electrode production, technological innovation is advancing at an unprecedented pace. Among these developments, dry coating technology has emerged as one of the most promising breakthroughs. The distinguishing characteristic of dry coating lies in its fundamental departure from wet coating methodology - the solid material is processed directly as a 100% system rather than in dissolved form.

Our presentation introduces a differentiated dry coating process that eliminates the requirement for gap dosing via roller systems. Instead, the electrode material is applied directly to the substrate through a patented electrostatic powdering process, achieving precise coating quality. The active material undergoes compaction in a calendering process, maintaining compatibility with established wet coating protocols.

This technological approach eliminates the drying process inherent to wet coating, delivering substantial advantages in space requirements and energy consumption. A critical additional benefit is the complete elimination of hazardous solvents such as NMP from the production process.
